Who should take this course?

If you’ve always wanted to take scuba diving lessons, experience unparalleled adventure and see the world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. To enroll in a PADI Open Water Diver course (or Junior Open Water Diver course), you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.

What will you learn?

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:

  • Knowledge Development ( online, independent study or in a classroom) to understand basic principles of scuba diving

  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills

  • Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!

You may be able to get college credit for the Open Water Diver course.

How can you start learning now?

You can start today by stopping at Sunken Treasure Scuba Center and enrolling in the PADI Open Water Diver course.

With PADI’s eLearning option – you can start learning right away. The PADI Open Water Diver Online gives you the background information you need to dive safely and allows you to study at your own pace through an interactive computer-based program. So you can get started now!

You could start learning with PADI’s home-study materials – the Open Water Diver TouchTM app or the Open Water Diver Manual and Open Water Diver Video. Call Sunken Treasure Scuba Center to enroll in the course, get your materials and start your program today. Your PADI Instructor will schedule time with you to check your progress and make sure you understand important scuba diving information.

What scuba gear will you use?

In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device and a tank. The equipment you wear varies, depending upon whether you’re diving in tropical, temperate or cold water.

Check with Sunken Treasure Scuba Center about the gear you’ll use during this course and get advice about everything you need from your PADI Instructor.

2023 - DISCOVER SCUBA (Drop-in Class)

Have you ever wanted to try SCUBA? Here’s your chance! There is nothing like breathing underwater for the very first time. It takes a little getting used to; after all, human beings weren’t designed to do that - but after a few minutes of awestruck wonder, most participants realize how easy scuba diving really is!

The class will include instruction on safety, equipment selection and use, and time to experiment and play with underwater games and exploration. The biggest challenge instructors have with the Discover Scuba Diving program is coaxing students out when the class is over. The fun part? It’s all fun - try it for yourself and see! If you like it, you can also look at a full SCUBA course like the one listed below.

Beginner Group Scuba Lessons 12+ years of age

This course will teach participants the skills necessary to become open water certified SCUBA divers. The course will consist of six classes at Welch Pool. Note that four additional open water (non-pool) dives are required for certification. Additional information on certification dives will be provided at the first class.A medical Waiver Required: if any conditions apply, students must be cleared by a physician before participating in the class. Bubble Maker Scuba Lessons for kid’s 8-12 years of age…..Jun 24th Duration 8:00 to 10:00 am Pool time from 8:30 to ~10:00am Shallow pool Bubblemaker is as fun as it sounds--a chance for kids to blow bubbles by scuba diving! Children who are at least 8 years old can use scuba gear to breathe and swim underwater in the shallow part of the pool. In the Bubblemaker program, participants get a basic introduction to how to use scuba gear, how to clear a regulator and mask, and an overview of underwater breathing do’s and don’ts. The Bubblemaker Crew-Pak (included with registration) contains mementos of the experience and is full of fun surprises, such as a kid-sized beach towel, logbook, certificate, temporary tattoo, decal and the adorable and popular Bubblemaker water toy.Resident $114.00 Non-Resident $171.00 program is 6/24/23 at the Welch Pool. Seal Team kid’s 8+ The PADI Seal Team is for young scuba divers who are looking for action-packed fun in a pool by completing exciting AquaMissions. PADI Seal Team includes doing some cool stuff in the pool, meeting friends and sharing in the adventure of the underwater world. To join the PADI Seal Team, a child must be 8 years of age or older. AquaMissions 1 - 5, cover basic scuba diving skills, such as breathing underwater, clearing a mask of water, recovering a regulator and swimming around while experiencing the sensation of being weightless. Each in-water session takes about an hour. After the diver complete these AquaMissions they will become a recognized PADI Seal Team Member. Your experience may also count toward the PADI Open Water Diver course when you’re old enough to participate in the course.
